Background
The Integrated Air Defense Center JCF Team
The Japan Central Facility (JCF) was established in 1987 to address customer dissatisfaction with quality. The customer (Japanese industry) and Raytheon developed a plan for additional inspection just prior to shipment. Raytheon inspectors undergo training with customer involvement so that they will conduct inspections similar to those conducted in Japan.
Concept
- Establish tighter than usual inspection guidelines.
- Perform 100% visual inspection and strive for an Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) of 1% defects on simple mechanical dimensions.
- Inspect to the drawing, as the customer does.
- Have Raytheon inspectors trained by the customer.
The JCF is conceptually intended to be the eyes of the customer regarding their expectations of quality. It is the last line of defense against quality defects according to stringent Japanese criteria. The JCF's success ensures continued good customer relations, which then drives continued business.
